4 more day before the official update rolls out. For the time being, manyn of us, the PlayBook users have been rocking the latest beta OS for the PlayBook. In this post, I will give a not so in-depth review of the latest .7111 findings and glitches. Perhaps some of u are still wondering wether to give it a go on Beta OSes. I was also quite unsure whether to install it or not. After 2 days of using the beta OS, I’m glad that no major breakdown happens on my PlayBook.
In this post I will list down apps that works with .7111 build.
The major upgrade I’ve seen so far is the keyboard. Predictive keyboard works like a charm as been promised. However, not all application will be able to harness this function. For instance, 3rd party apps like Blaq and Facebook still don’t have predictibe keyboard enabled. The predictive keyboard only work in composing emails.
Android app player that comes bundled with the OS also found to be stable. FYI currently I’m typing on my PlayBook using the Android version of WordPress. It works pretty sleek and properly functioning as it should be. I can post, edit and upload the content straight from my PlayBook. This is a good sign that RIM have been working on really hard to ensure the best user experience for the coming update.
After installing the OS, I had to wait for a couple of minutes before the media (music, videos and photos) to appear in the library. This is a common situatiom where the PlayBook needs time to scan through all the media content (in my case, it had to scan for 20 Gb of data stored). Soon after thatm everything works perfectly. Video looks great, and music player does it job well. I have to admit that when it comes to camera, it lost its autofocus ability. This is not a major issue since the Beta is not meant for end users. Hopefully in the next official update, this problem will be looked into.
You have to bear in mind that, although this version is pretty close to the coming update, you can’t expect it to have native contacts, emails and calendar like the one claimed by RIM recently. This is just a developer build and end user experience my not be fully optimized.
If you have previously downloaded any apps from the AppWorld, they will also blend in nicely with this build. However, some users reported that games like Samurai 2 and Eternal Legacy crashes upon startung up. The rest of the apps are working properly.
Bridge connectivity also works like a charm in this build. I can’t wait for the official release where I can use my Blackberry as a physical keyboard that works remotely for PlayBook. Currently kn this version, it is not available yet. Some report claimed that an update for Bridge apps is needed before that function can be employed.
That’s alll for now. I will update accordingly should I came across more major glitches and bugs. Till then..have fun with your PlayBook.
